Man found convicted of hiring an escort for sex on dating site for money.
The Crown said that the 23-year-old man had been arrested last week.
According to court documents, the man was arrested in a car at about 6:30 p.m. on July 28.
According, the Crown said the man had arranged a ride home for him from a Toronto hotel where he was staying.
At the hotel, he had sex with two women, according to court filings.
He was arrested by police and charged with two counts of trafficking in persons, one count of sexual assault, and one count each of possession of a prohibited substance and possession of property obtained by crime.
The Crown said police found a mobile phone, computer and a wallet containing $1,000 in cash.
“It’s very disturbing, it’s quite disturbing, but it’s not new,” said Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair.
“It’s a very serious crime, it was a very complex crime and this guy was trying to make money for himself.”
Police say the man, who cannot be identified, has been charged with trafficking in person, sexual assault and possession.
A spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service said it would be inappropriate to comment on the investigation.
Police said the victim is not a person in any way associated with the escort service, but she did work as an escort on the dating website where she was working.
In a statement, the Toronto-based escort service said it has suspended all of its services for the duration of the investigation and is cooperating fully with the investigation, which began in late July.
Toronto police have said that no other charges have been laid.
As a result, the accused is free to return to work and cannot be re-arrested.
